Global activist and inspirational social commentator, Kathy LeMay, explores the growing importance of social change organizations in her first book "The Generosity Plan" -- and CANDi is one of her featured examples. Rather than providing one-time fixes to pressing problems, social change organizations address the root causes of the problem in such a way as to create lasting change.
In outlining the critical role these groups can play in making the world a better place, LeMay praises CANDi for its focus on changing cultural attitudes toward animals by involving local businesses, tourists, and the tourism industry in creating sustainable solutions. "We are so proud and honored to be recognized for our work in improving the lives of stray cats and dogs by someone who has been so instrumental in creating positive change in the world," said Darci Galati, President and Founder of CANDi. "Kathy is a true inspiration to us: her insights and plans for social action have significantly guided our approach to helping animals." LeMay is founder, President, and CEO of Raising Change, which helps organizations raise capital to advance social agendas. LeMay, who began her global activism in war-torn Yugoslavia where she worked with women survivors of the siege and rape-genocide camps, has been a social change fundraiser for 15 years, raising more than $100 million in the fields of women’s human rights, hunger and poverty relief, and movement-building. In addition she has directed an additional $100 million in philanthropic dollars to organizations working to make a difference. She has provided social change fundraising and philanthropy trainings to hundreds of organizations around the world. While LeMay is a sought-after speaker and frequent guest on television and radio talk shows, "The Generosity Plan" marks the first time that she has collected her observations, tools, and steps for effecting social change into a book. "The Generosity Plan" is a practical guide to philanthropy that demonstrates ways of combining our gifts in service to the greater good using the model of "Time, Treasure, and Talent." The three together can transform money into action, time into outcomes, and talents into possibilities. Alone, they are less effective. "Being a huge animal lover, I was thrilled to learn about CANDi's unique approach to making lasting improvements in the lives of stray cats and dogs," said LeMay. "Darci is a wonderful example of using time, treasure, and talent to achieve results. I'm excited to see just how much she and CANDi will be able to accomplish." Cats and Dogs International (CANDi) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing animal welfare groups together with businesses in the tourism industry to address a shared goal--improving the lives of stray cats and dogs in destination locations. Founded by Darci Galati, a 20-year veteran of the tourism industry, CANDi helps tourism-based businesses implement programs that enhance the environment of travel destinations, enrich the experience of travelers, and improve the lives of animals. CANDi programs provide humane, viable, long-term solutions to stray animal overpopulation through spay/neuter, adoption, and education programs that can be replicated anywhere in the world.
