CANDi's goal is to help dogs and cats by reducing overpopulation, neglect, abuse and starvation. Equally important to CANDi is educating adults and children about how to be kind to animals. It can be the most effective way to improve animal welfare, and break the chain of abuse and neglect that is witnessed in these countries today. Animal neglect and abuse often results from people’s ignorance about animals’ needs. Once individuals learn about animal care, their treatment of animals often improves.
We believe teaching empathy towards animals is also an effective way to teach character education. Studies show that children and adults who are kind to animals are also kinder to their fellow humans and are better citizens of their communities.
Our goal, is to create education programs that can be operated through our organization and spay and neuter camps. We then have an opportunity for one-on-one contact with a member of the public during spay/neuter or vaccination clinics, and day to day interaction with the public.
It is a fact that when you teach a child to be kind to animals, you help pave the way to a brighter future for all living beings. Animals benefit because the next generation has learned to treat them with respect and compassion, reducing instances of animal cruelty. Children benefit because learning about compassion and empathy early in life builds moral character, reduces violence, and builds a sense of empowerment and responsibility. Therefore ensuring society as a whole benefits when its members are more caring towards each other and to the animals that live among us.
Unfortunately, not all children are taught to be kind to animals. It is our goal to create an opportunity through these spay and neuter clinics, to educate the children, however we need support and funding to make this happen.
We believe that pets and children are so connected. Pets are here to teach our children to be kinder and share their unconditional love. Children learn this love and from this learn to create a better tomorrow.
